Worship Releases Heaven’s Authority

Psalms 47:1-9 O clap your hands, all peoples; shout to God with the voice of joy. For the LORD Most High is to be feared, a great King over all the earth. He subdues peoples under us and nations under our feet. He chooses our inheritance for us, the glory of Jacob whom He loves. Selah. God has ascended with a shout, the LORD, with the sound of a trumpet. Sing praises to God, sing praises. Sing praises to our King, sing praises. For God is the King of all the earth; Sing praises with a psalm of wisdom. God reigns over the nations, God sits on His holy throne. The princes of the people have assembled as the people of the God of Abraham, for the shields of the earth belong to God; He is highly exalted.

 

1. Worship recognizes who’s really in charge

  • Worship is not just the singing of songs; it’s a mindset, a posture we take, a paradigm we embrace, an angle we choose
  • Worship is a recognition that there is a God in heaven who still owns and rules over the earth
  • God is the Lord Most High, El Elyon, the possessor of heaven and earth
  • God can turn history on a dime any moment He chooses to do so
  • The Bible repeatedly reminds us that Jesus is ultimately in charge of everything: king over all
  • Ephesians 1:20-21 “He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named not only in this age but also in the one to come”
  • The resurrection of Jesus is a big event, but it didn’t stop there
  • God’s power raised Jesus to the ultimate place of authority over all things

 

Nothing is too small to escape God’s notice
Nothing is too big to be beyond God’s capability

2. Worship releases our spiritual authority

  • We were created in God’s image and likeness; we were not an evolutionary accident
  • We were created to be a ruling entity in the earth, with all things under our feet
  • Each of us is equipped and called to an arena of life; in your sphere of calling, you were made to be in charge
  • We are crowned with glory and honor and given power to have dominion
  • Whatever we face, we can throw our shoulders back and know that God is in charge and has given us authority to rule and reign in life
  • Just like with Paul and Silas in jail, worship releases God’s authority into your situation

3. Worship brings us into our own

  • Psalms 47:4 “He chooses our inheritance for us, the glory of Jacob whom He loves. Selah.”
  • Our inheritance is chosen by God; it is ours because of who we belong to
  • No one can take away the inheritance and blessing God has ordained for you
  • Worship recognizes God’s great ability to fill up the boundaries of your life with all the goodness He can give
