The Keys to Prayer Pulling God’s Future into Earth’s Now

The first key is to Hear from God.

Habakkuk 2:1 I will stand on my guard post And station myself on the rampart; And I will keep watch to see what He will speak to me, And how I may reply when I am reproved.

Stand at the guard post of your assignment in the Lord, whether it’s’ for your family, for work, for your church or for your city… stand and station yourself on the rampart.

Speak and listen. Always be listening to God… with your heart, with your spirit and in your inner man (or woman). If you listen closely enough, you will sense God’s pull of the future, into the now. It’s important to remember to continually hear and act out of what you are hearing from God.

If you remember last week’s passages from Acts 10:1-10, we read about Peter and Cornelius, two praying men that made it a normal cycle to pray without ceasing. Both Cornelius & Peter saw & heard something during that prayer. They didn’t know what was happening in the other’s world. They didn’t even know each other!

If we can learn anything from Cornelius & Peter, it’s that God is always setting up dominoes for the praying man (and woman). He’s always arranging things behind the scenes.

Hearing from God requires two things:

  • Setting aside time to actually hear from God
  • Allowing yourself to tune in so you can actually hear Him

One of the many downfalls of our American society is busyness. We equate busyness with productivity… with personal value. The real truth is that busyness does not define who we are.

An ongoing, current, personal relationship with God defines who we are. It is essential to creating a preferable future. And that relationship takes the investment of time.

By paying the TIME, we allow God to step into our lives in ways that we could have never imagined. One God-inspired idea… one word from God, birthed out of intimacy with God, will be more valuable than months of busyness and trying to work it all out on our own.

Once God turns the light on to the path ahead, we are on our way to a brighter and bigger future. Your word is a light unto my path…

Psalms 119:105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

Proverbs 21:31 The horse is prepared for the day of battle, But victory belongs to the Lord.

You can work and plan and organize all day, but only He is the Alpha and Omega. He knows how and when to start…  He knows how and when to finish.

God knows what’s next at your posted assignment and He wants to let you in on it. You just have to take the time to listen and tune in to what He’s speaking to your heart and your spirit.
