Keep Wearing Your Mantle

Genesis 37, 39

Joseph’s life and story is impacted by the mantle of blessing that was put on his life by his father; regardless of circumstances and challenges, Joseph learned to prosper because he wore the mantle of blessing in every season and situation he faced.

Keys to Joseph’s leadership

  • Joseph continued to wear his mantle of blessing
    • Genesis 37:3 “Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his sons, because he was the son of his old age; and he made him a varicolored tunic.”
    • Joseph’s father put a mantle on him to signify his love and blessing of Joseph
    • Joseph didn’t earn it – it was given to him because of who his father was
    • Do not be afraid to wear your mantle of blessing no matter what is going on in your world
    • The enemy was always trying to steal his mantle; there is an enemy who is always attempting to take off of you what God put on you
    • God puts on you (as a gift) righteousness, favor, blessing, prosperity, peace, joy
    • The enemy comes after you with accusation, lies, voices, family issues, temptations, circumstances
    • Colossians 3:10 “Put on the new self who is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the One who created him.”
    • Dress for success: put off what God has taken off you and put on what he has put on you
    • Romans 13:12 “The night is almost gone, and the day is near. Therefore let us lay aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.”
    • Ephesians 6:11 “Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.”
    • Wear it! Carry it in your spirit: whether you are up or down, put on what God has put on you
    • Joseph walked in success, blessing, favor, prosperity no matter the season or circumstance
    • Joseph was sold by his brothers, thrown in jail, wrongfully accused
    • He learned to put on his mantle of blessing in whatever circumstance he found himself in (the pit, the prison, the palace)
    • Joseph learned to prosper in difficult personal circumstances
    • What has tried to steal the mantle off you?
    • It’s all about a sense of identity: “I may be in a pit, but I’m a blessed man in a pit. I may be in a prison, but I’m a blessed man in a prison. I may be in a palace, but I’m there because I am a blessed man.”
    • Put on your mantle in the palace as well as anywhere else
    • Keep wearing the mantle your father has put on you

Facilitating Discussion

  1. What mantle of blessing has God put on you?
  2. Are you putting on that mantle each day?
