Win the Day #4 | Fly the Kite

The glory of being a human is that we are created in the image of God.

We can shape and mold the future. We can get a vision and move toward it.

  • Our church
  • Our facilities
  • All the equipment
  • The thousands who have given their lives to Christ
  • The missions trips

All of it started as a thought, a vision.

Ephesians 3:20 Now to Him who is able to do exceeding abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us

Ephesians 3:21 to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.

God is:

  • Exceedingly
  • Abundant
  • Beyond
  • Big

His glory, his bigness, His greatness is tied to:

  1. His Church
  2. To Christ Jesus
  3. To all generations

We have to think generationally. In Italy there are massive cathedrals that took hundreds of years and Vision & Resources to build.

Carry the mantle from the previous generation. It took generations to build those cathedrals and they are still here, today.

God gives His exceeding abundantly beyond to enable us to go beyond our own maintenance. To reach beyond ourselves. To reach beyond our own maintenance and to fulfill a mission, a cause, His mission, His story.

We are fishing in the Ocean, not maintaining an aquarium.

Church was never intended to be an aquarium. Church is always about reaching beyond ourselves.

The Rock Church does not exist for itself:

  • It exists for the glory of God
  • It exists to reach the people Jesus died for
  • It exists to help people live better lives

I have no reservations when it comes to calling us to give our very best to the greatest cause that exists on this planet:

  • God’s glory
  • People’s eternity
  • Heaven awaits

Our time, our talents, our treasure. Church is not just a weekend experience. It’s a family. It’s an army. It’s an arrow.

Fly The Kite

Building a bridge across Niagara Falls took a Kite flown across with a string. Big bridges start with a small kite string

Little by little bad habits are broken.

Little by little good habits are built.

Little by little dreams become reality.

Small seeds become big trees

Matthew 13:31 He presented another parable to them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field;

Matthew 13:32 and this is smaller than all other seeds, but when it is full grown, it is larger than the garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and nest in it’s branches

It’s about the power of small things.

Big doors swing on small hinges.

Small is the new big:

  • Southwest airlines
  • Jet Blue
  • Make a profit
  • While American Airlines is losing money almost every day

Craigslist had 18 employees and was the 4th most visited site on the internet.

Small seeds create big trees. Big trees come from small seeds.

In the kingdom of God… God starts with small to create big.

The small seed of today creates the big tree of tomorrow

For both good and bad, small things can create a big thing. Do small things well and a good big thing accumulates.

Don’t do small things well and then have a big negative thing accumulate.

What if an apple a day keeps the doctor away? You can do that! But 7 apples in a day doesn’t work… playing catch up won’t work.

A few pushups everyday will take you somewhere.

A few pushups skipped will take you somewhere.

Read your bible, every day, in small doses.

Pray every day, in small doses.

Don’t read your Bible every day and watch the days grow into weeks, months.

Miss church once and it’s easier to miss the next time… you get disconnected.

Show up every Sunday, get regularly fed and inspired… You start growing and you stay connected.

Men pay attention to small things and watch your marriage flourish.

God starts small and we want to start big. We want a breakthrough! Get small. Think big. God is great not just because nothing is too big. God is great because nothing is too small.

Don’t despise your small seed

Zechariah 4:10 Do not despise these small beginnings, for the LORD rejoices to see the work begin

The day of small things. Handle the small thing in your hand well today and it will grow.

Our church started as a small seed… It was a dream in Suzette and I. We started with 3 people, $500, No band, No equipment.

We flew a kite string and had a small seed. Don’t despise the seed of your dream. Don’t despise the seed of your small opportunity.

Start with the small in your hand.

The tree of tomorrow looks like a seed in your hand today.

Responsibility and opportunity… People confuse responsibility and opportunity. They are looking for opportunity, but taking responsibility leads into opportunity.

Being responsible with the seed in your hand leads to opportunity tomorrow.

Big starts with small.

Matthew 17:20 if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you

Exercise small faith to move mountains. Small moves mountains.

Small faithfulness.

Small integrity.

Small acts of kindness.

Small diligence.

The combination of many trivial things done well ends up becoming your success. Trust that God has something good in mind for your tomorrow.

To Win The Day, we need to make each day a Masterpiece. What is a masterpiece to you?

A masterpiece day is not just a spectacular day. A masterpiece is a day you fly the kite in keeping with your vision for life.

It’s different for you than for me. It’s different for this season.

The way to do that is different for each of us. There are different answers in different seasons.

If you want to win the day you got to define the win. You have to define success for yourself.

  • You decide what success is for you
  • Your mission, calling, style
  • The way you live and do your life
  • It’s your call – your choice
  • Be true to God and your own soul

Establish the compass before you set the clock. It’s not just flying kites at the beach.

You have to have a vision, a direction, a picture in mind.

Jesus asks blind Bartemaus and the man at the pool of Bethesda: “What do you want”?

Here’s the reality: most of us don’t get what we want because we don’t really know what we want.

When you have a vision for your future, you can fly a kite each day.
