Favor Makes a Way

Genesis 39:2-4 The LORD was with Joseph, so he became a successful man. And he was in the house of his master, the Egyptian. Now his master saw that the LORD was with him and how the LORD caused all that he did to prosper in his hand. So Joseph found favor in his sight and became his personal servant; and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he owned he put in his charge.

The favor of God is essential for our dreams to be fulfilled

God is a dream-giver

Let your dream determine your identity

  • Joseph saw himself as a leader, a ruler: who you think you are matters a lot
  • The circumstances can’t determine your action and attitude
  • Chart your course with the dream that’s in your heart
  • Joseph knew who he was because God told him
  • Your habits are born out of how you see yourself
  • Good habits are born out of the right identity and the right identity is reinforced by good habits

Don’t allow setbacks to steal your dream

  • The measure of a person’s greatness is how much it takes to discourage them
  • All the setbacks in Joseph’s life were still part of the plan to prepare him for his calling
  • Circumstance does not run your life, your life runs the circumstance
  • Having a dream and the capacity to fulfill it are two different things
  • The dream keeps you on track while you’re walking the process
  • James 1:2-3 “Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing
  • The test produces something in you that you wouldn’t otherwise have
  • We may not understand, but we trust God
  • A setback reveals you to yourself; your reaction is the revelation of what’s going on in your inner man
  • Proverbs 17:3; the Lord tests the hearts of mankind; the heat brings out the impurities
  • Joseph had family problems, was lied about, was thrown in jail, was tempted, was overlooked and ignored and yet was successful because his life was in God’s hands and the favor of God caused him to prosper
  • Favor is greater than your circumstances; favor makes a way
